Summary
The Income feature enables grassroots football clubs to track all incoming funds, from player subscriptions to sponsorships. Through a clean, intuitive flow, managers can record amounts, sources, and upload proof of payment. The feature complements ONDpitch’s Expenses tool, providing teams with a comprehensive view of their financial health.
Early adoption was strong, with 60% of teams using the feature in the first two weeks and over £43,000 recorded in the first month.
Problem
Grassroots football teams receive money from multiple sources player subscriptions, matchday contributions, donations, or fundraising events. However, most teams lacked a proper way to record these income sources in a structured format.
As a result, income tracking was done informally through chats, bank screenshots, or even handwritten notes, making it hard to account for how much money had actually come in.
Goals
Design an intuitive, mobile-first feature that allows club managers to:
- Log different types of income (e.g., Player Subs, Donations, Sponsorships)
- Record the amount, date, and income source
- Attach proof (e.g., payment screenshots or receipts)
- Maintain accurate and transparent income records
- Filter or search income history easily
Research and Insights
Through conversations with users and feedback from the ONDpitch community, we identified that:
- Teams needed to prove income to players during end-of-season reviews
- Managers often struggled to remember which player had paid and for what
- Income and expenses needed to “talk” to each other to provide a full financial picture
We also discovered that most team managers preferred to log payments manually but wanted an easier, cleaner system that felt trustworthy and required minimal steps.
My Process
Mapping the flow
I structured a lightweight flow that focused on 4 steps:
- Income Type
- Amount & Date
- Source (e.g., Player, Sponsor, Event)
- Optional Notes + Receipt Upload
This made it easy to record anything from a £10 sub to a £43,000 sponsor deal with the same process.
Visual Design
- Designed a structured, easy-to-use income form with clearly labeled input fields.
- Grouped related fields, like “Income Type” and “Amount,” to create a logical flow for users.
- Used dropdown menus for consistent data input and to reduce typing errors.
- Included optional fields such as “Company Name” and “Upload Receipt” to offer flexibility without overwhelming users.
- Added a confirmation message after submission to reassure users that their data was successfully saved.
- Displayed a dynamic, filterable income table beneath the form to help users quickly review past entries.
- Focused on a clean, desktop-friendly layout tailored to how most users manage club finances, typically on larger screens.
Solution
The final Income feature allowed managers to:
✅ Log income in a structured and professional way
✅ Record who paid, how much, and for what purpose
✅ Upload visual proof for future reference
✅ View a full history of income to support reporting and transparency
This added critical structure to team finances and helped managers confidently track money coming into the club.
Results
- 60% of active clubs began using the feature in the first two weeks
- Over £10,000 was logged in total income across the platform in the first month
- Positive user feedback included:
This is much easier than writing everything in my notebook. Now I know exactly where the money came from.

Cronies FCWhat I learned
- Teams value consistency. Matching the layout and style of other financial tools builds confidence
- Form-based design works well when users are dealing with sensitive tasks like finance
- Even small details like field hints and labels can improve clarity and reduce hesitation
Final Thoughts
The Income feature brought structure and professionalism to how grassroots clubs handle money. By offering a simple, focused input form with the right fields and options, managers were able to log income with confidence and clarity. This supported Ondpitch’s broader mission of helping grassroots clubs manage finances transparently and efficiently.
